Just because I'm pedantic about this sort of thing: In the current ncurses master source file (which is used by at least OpenBSD, FreeBSD, NetBSD, every Linux variant I know of & probably lots more, but I don't keep track now), I'm listed as the author of the vt320, vt320-nam, vt320-w, vt320-w-nam, z340, z340-nam, dt80-sas (formerly known as dtx-sas), and as the contributor of supporting information for the ifmr entry. So that's technically eight entries, but really only two base definitions. If you browse the source, you'll see that DEC's official vt320 entry consisted of "use=vt220". Absolutely useless entry, especially since the keyboards on the vt220 and the vt320 weren't identical and therefore the function-key labels didn't quite all match up. This made it almost impossible to use the official vt320 entry with any app that used function keys. I also note that there existed two alternate vt320 implementations before mine, all substantially identical to each other - I believe mine was part of a comprehensive vt220/vt240/vt320/vt340/vt420 set I submitted, so it was constructed somewhat differently than the current version. The Kermit-based entries didn't get the function keys right for a real vt320, either, IIRC. And the version of ncurses installed on ccu at the time probably wasn't quite up-to-date; I'm fairly sure I hadn't seen either of the other two before writing my own. On the previous subject of Wyse terminals, reading through the comments in terminfo.src reveals that Wyse couldn't really make a substantially bug-free terminal until the Wyse 370 or thereabouts. This despite being the second-largest terminal mfgr in the world during the wy50/wy60 era. I guess this would make them the hardware equivalent of Microsoft, just 10 years earlier. -Adam Thompson athompso(a)athompso.net

Hear ye, hear ye! This is the FINAL CALL for nominees to participate in the election for the MUUG board. Those elected will serve from November 2011 until October 2012. The deadline to nominate yourself, or someone else, is October 25, 2011. Instructions follow. The MUUG board is charged with coordinating the meetings and other events by the group. It's fun, and you get a role in guiding the group. All are encouraged to apply. ------------------------ MUUG Board Elections - Call for Nominations Every year, in the fall, the Manitoba Unix User Group holds its Annual Meeting, the main goals of which are to elect a new Board of Directors and to pass any special resolutions. (Aside from that, it is a regular meeting.) Any MUUG member in good standing can be nominated to run for a position on the Board. The letter must contain the name, title, and employer of the nominee, along with a short (100 word or so) biography, and must contain the signatures of the nominee and one other member. The letter must be received no later than October 25, 2011, which is 14 days prior to the November 8 meeting. Although the by-laws require that the nominations be done in writing, with signatures, you can speed up the process by sending e-mail to <election(a)muug.mb.ca>, with the above information, and sending the signed paper copy later. In this case, please include the e-mail address of both the nominee and the supporter on the CC: list of the message, so that all parties concerned have a record of the communication. Shaw Broadband 50

I was an Shaw Extreme user and decided to try out Broadband 50. It turns out that Extreme customers can upgrade to Broadband 50 at no additional cost. They use a SMCDG3N a DOCSIS 3.0 N wireless router. Very nice specs including IPv6 support. http://www.smc.com/files/AN/DS_SMCD3GN-RES.pdf Shaw mails out the modem. Of course the first thing when I got it was how do I get my 2nd IP address. If you want to use 2 IP addresses then Shaw turns off the router and wireless function. So it is a modem with a 4 port Gig switch. This is how I am running it. I did a test at speedtest.net got 48.64Mbps down and 2.87Mbps up which is pretty close to 50Mbps down and 3Mbps up. -- Bill

The Manitoba UNIX User Group (MUUG) will be holding its next monthly meeting on Tuesday, October 11. The meeting topic for this month is as follows: Mini-HowTo Topics: MBR Rescue and Dropbox What happens when you trash your MBR? Rob Keizer will discuss ways to get your system up and running again quickly. Dropbox is a free file sharing service with client support for Windows, MacOS X, Linux, and even some mobile platforms. It lets you automatically replicate files to any of your configured clients, share them with other users, or access them from the web. Gilbert Detillieux will show Dropbox in use, and show the installation of client software under Linux. Before the break, as this month's RTFM topic, Michael Doob will talk about using the rsync(1) command. The group holds its general meetings at 7:30pm on the second Tuesday of every month from September to June. (There are no meetings in July and August.) Meetings are open to the general public; you don't have to be a MUUG member to attend. ********************************************************************** Please note our meeting location: The IBM offices, at 400 Ellice Ave. (between Edmonton and Kennedy). When you arrive, you will have to sign in at the reception desk, and then wait for someone to take you (in groups) to the meeting room. Please try to arrive by about 7:15pm, so the meeting can start promptly at 7:30pm. Don't be late, or you may not get in. (But don't come too early either, since security may not be there to let you in before 7:15 or so.) Non-members may be required to show photo ID at the security desk. Limited parking is available for free on the street, either on Ellice Ave. or on some of the intersecting streets. Indoor parking is also available nearby, at Portage Place, for $5.00 for the evening. Hardware question re: xserve 2004

Hey, I realize this isn't a UNIX question, but I thought there might be someone on this list who can help me. I have a Mac XServe 2004 on which the power supply just died. Is there anyone who has a spare power supply for an xserve 2004 that might be willing to sell? Regards, Syd
