Howdy folks! Just a reminder that the MUUG meeting is tonight at 7:30pm. After the round-table session, we're having a time for mingling and munchies, and it's pot-luck - so please bring your favourite goodies or finger food along to share. The MUUG board will take care of soft drinks, plates, napkins, etc. Also, please remember a tin for the bin (or other non-perishable food item), which will go to Winnipeg Harvest. Gilbert --------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Manitoba UNIX User Group (MUUG) will be holding its next monthly meeting on Tuesday, December 13. The meeting topic for this month is as follows: Round-table, Mingling & Munchies As the holiday hustle and bustle gets into high gear, we'll take it easy this month, with a longer-than-usual round-table session (if there's a need for it), followed by a time for mingling and nibbling on munchies (instead of the usual, short coffee break). *PLEASE NOTE:* The food will be pot luck, so bring some of your favourite goodies along. And since this is the season for giving to those in need, we ask that you bring a tin or other *non-perishable food item* for Winnipeg Harvest. Also, instead of the usual door-prize draw at the end, we'll be auctioning off an original two-volume set of UNIX manuals from Bell Labs, with proceeds going to Winnipeg Harvest. The group holds its general meetings at 7:30pm on the second Tuesday of every month from September to June. (There are no meetings in July and August.) Meetings are open to the general public; you don't have to be a MUUG member to attend. ********************************************************************** Please note our meeting location: The IBM offices, at 400 Ellice Ave. (between Edmonton and Kennedy). When you arrive, you will have to sign in at the reception desk, and then wait for someone to take you (in groups) to the meeting room. Please try to arrive by about 7:15pm, so the meeting can start promptly at 7:30pm. Don't be late, or you may not get in. (But don't come too early either, since security may not be there to let you in before 7:15 or so.) Non-members may be required to show photo ID at the security desk. Limited parking is available for free on the street, either on Ellice Ave. or on some of the intersecting streets. Indoor parking is also available nearby, at Portage Place, for $5.00 for the evening. UNIX command transcript with canned input, echoed in output?

Howdy folks! I got a request from a prof this morning that stumped this old UNIX hack. He wants to run a UNIX command (for a language interpreter), using input from a file, and saving a transcript of the output. That much is trivial. The catch is that he'd like the transcript to have the input echoed, as if it had been typed in at the tty. I've looked at options on the script command and ssh, but can't find a simple solution to this. And it has to be simple enough for his students (who may not have much UNIX experience) to use.
