Small router that'll do two internal networks
Does anyone know of a SOHO router/firewall that'll separate two internal networks? If an off-the-shelf Linksys could just do dot1q vlans it would be perfect. I specifically don't want to build or hack something, as this isn't for me. Wireless optional. Being able to let some stuff through from one network to another (printers) would be a bonus. Cheap is desirable. Thanks, Sean -- Sean Walberg <sean@ertw.com> http://ertw.com/
All the Buffalo wireless-N routers (AFAIK) are available with *supported* DD-WRT, which can certainly do that. Using .1Q is tricky but definitely do-able. I paid <$200 for my WZR-HP-G300NH, I think it was closer to $100, not sure now. Otherwise I think you'll have to look at something slightly esoteric like Mikrotik, and that may as well be "build/hack". -Adam -----Original Message----- From: Sean Walberg <sean@ertw.com> Sender: roundtable-bounces@muug.mb.ca Date: Mon, 3 Jan 2011 22:11:25 To: MUUG Roundtable<roundtable@muug.mb.ca> Reply-To: Continuation of Round Table discussion <roundtable@muug.mb.ca> Subject: [RndTbl] Small router that'll do two internal networks _______________________________________________ Roundtable mailing list Roundtable@muug.mb.ca http://www.muug.mb.ca/mailman/listinfo/roundtable
I'd consider the following: http://www.globalscaletechnologies.com/p-32-guruplug-server-plus.aspx <http://www.globalscaletechnologies.com/p-32-guruplug-server-plus.aspx>dual gig nics too :-) Dan. On 3 January 2011 22:11, Sean Walberg <sean@ertw.com> wrote:

true, i do recall that note about the heat ... and .. when i check to actually go to order .. it looks like they now only produce in QTY of 100 :-( too bad ... you'd have to settle for the single ethernet port option. or ... OpenWRT is another option with vlan's .. found this reference: https://forum.openwrt.org/viewtopic.php?id=13687 or dd-wrt.com has the following to offer on separation of ports: https://forum.openwrt.org/viewtopic.php?id=13687 but these do require some up-front configuration to some degree ... When I was working with OpenWRT a while back and I really liked it -- had all the options I was looking for at the time ... Dan. Kelly and I use OpenWRT and have configured VLANs with it, and we're pretty happy with it. On Tue, Jan 4, 2011 at 10:58 PM, ve4drk@gmail.com <catchall@keizer.ca>wrote:
