The URL I downloaded was; [mel@p4 FC2-test3-binary-i386]$ btdownloadcurses.py --url http://torrent.dulug.duke.edu/FC2-test3-binary-i386.torrent That produced a directory in ~ automatically named "FC2-test3-binary-i386" containing the four .iso files and the MD5SUM. how do I convert a .torrent file to a .iso file

I went to fedora.rehat.com to get a CORE test file file. The file I downloaded had the description; Official Fedora Core 2 TEST3 binary iso images for i386 The file has a .torrent extension. running bittorrent

I installed bittorrent without issue and copied the following from my terminal ====================================================================== [root@p4 Download]# rpm -Uvh bittorrent-3.3-0.fdr.2.fc1.noarch.rpm Preparing... ########################################### [100%] package bittorrent-3.3-0.fdr.2.fc1 is already installed [root@p4 Download]# bittorrent bash: bittorrent: command not found [root@p4 Download]# su -l [root@p4 root]# bittorrent -bash: bittorrent: command not found [root@p4 root]# ======================================================================= I did a file search from / for bittorrent using the gui off the Red Hat start menu but found nothing. IBM AS/400

A while ago, I acquired an IBM AS/400 server that had just been taken out of service. The idea was to learn about them, and put it online for kicks. Things have changed. I don't have the time. All I know about it is that it has 16 4-GIG SCSI drives, and was in use up until the time I got it. This is the big-assed one, not the one that looks like an overgrown PC. Taking offers, cash or trades.

Resizing XP NTFS partitions

I have a Windows XP machine, and I want to add SuSE 9.0. I want to cut the existing 39GB NTFS partition in half to make room. SuSE's installer tries, but brings up a dialog box saying that due to limitations of the software, the file system can only be shrunk by up to 3584 MB, and advises me to run a disk defragmentation program under Windows to move the used blocks toward the start of the partition. If I use the installer CD in rescue mode and try ntfsresize, it comes up with the same numbers. The Windows XP defragmenter shows the last half of the partition as being free. If I run it repeatedly, it claims to be compacting the same set of files over and over, but SuSE's "3584MB" number doesn't change. Some web searching turns up suggestions that XP's NTFS is different from earlier NTFS. Can ntfsresize really shrink the partition by more than 3584MB? Is Partition Magic my only hope?

I'd make a backup first. On one occasion I resized an NTFS partition with Partition Magic, and the NTFS partition was unusable afterward. Try adding the following repository to your /etc/yum.conf (or an alternative config file, if you don't want this in there by default): [dag] name=Fedora Core 1 Dag Wieers' repository baseurl=http://apt.sw.be/redhat/fc$releasever/en/i386/dag This repository does have an "apt" package available. (They've also got an "iftop" RPM package available for the most current version, 0.16, if you're interested in that one as well.) There may be other repositories available that also have "apt", but the above seems to work, and I haven't felt inclined to search further. -- Gilbert E. Nvidia video card drivers & DVD

I'm running Red Hat 9.0. My video card is an Nvidia FX5200 128 DDR. XFree86 sees it as a generic FX. Is that good enough to view DVD movies with? I just bought a CD-RW/DVD-ROM for that specific purpose. Will I have to install the Nvidia driver file: NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-5336-pkg1.run or is the XFree86 generic driver good enough? I'd hate to have to install that NVIDIA driver since it demands I patch the kernel. I hate messing with kernels. Something always goes very wrong when I touch a kernel. Any advice would me most welcome!
